They range from: the unlikely, such as making a net out of paper; the surprisingly difficult, such as trying to catch a piece of falling paper; the absurd and futile, such as insisting on trying to bury both arms in sand, or playing piano with hockey gloves; \u00a0and the technically challenging, that demands using complex methods of art making such as forty-five degree triaxial weaving, two-sided weavings that reassemble into an image, and making sound audible through my hands. These impossible tasks are literal, visible in the techniques used to make the works and demonstrated in video works. Other works here are emotional: keeping a memory of a lover alive, holding onto the presence of someone who is gone, or keeping connected to the world during pandemic lock-down.\r\n\r\nMany of my impossible tasks use repetitive methods, such as weaving and knotting. I find this repetition can make time stand still. Getting lost in an impossible task can make time stretch on into forever. Therein is my pleasure. I am also interested in repetitive motion in the natural world, the movement of waves found in water, sound and in light. In my work this cyclic time is connected to both the ephemeral quality of life and renewal.
